A bid was awarded Tuesday for construction of the Cape Girardeau School District's newest elementary school.
Persons Construction of Poplar Bluff was awarded the contract to build the 51,986-square-foot building at 1829 N. Sprigg, which is near Bertling Street, during a special noon meeting of the Board of Education.
The company was the low bidder of seven companies that submitted bids on the school. Its base bid of $3,390,000 was 4 percent more than the $3,258,368 estimate of school architects Thomas Holshouser and Charles Herbst.
The overall cost of the project is projected to be $3.4 million, about $20,910 more than architect's estimate in October 1997. The overall cost includes a board-approved increase of $12,000 to incorporate an alternate bid for unexposed window blinds enclosed between glass and a deduction of $2,000 from the base bid for the inclusion of a different type of wall partition to be built between the planned gymnasium and cafeteria.
