Cape Rotarian honors two sons

Rotary Club Secretary Dick Hammond honored his two sons, Jeff and Craig, with Paul Harris Fellowships Monday at the Rotary Club of Cape Girardeau meeting.

The fellowships are the seventh and eighth to be funded by Hammond, with five of the other six in his name and one in his wife Helen's name.

Rotarians who give $1,000 to the Rotary Foundation are awarded a fellowship. After the initial donation, Rotarians who donate an additional $1,000 to the foundation receives additional recognition and may choose to designate someone else to receive the fellowship.

District Governor-elect Jerry McClanahan said that each year an average of 10 Cape Girardeau Rotarians receive the fellowships for their donations to the Rotary International Foundation.

Between $120,000 and $150,000 is donated to the foundation each year by the 3,000 members of Rotary Club District 6060, McClanahan said. Money donated to the foundation is used for educational and humanitarian projects worldwide.

"Everybody gives to the foundation," McClanahan said. "It's our way of supporting the Rotary for its worldly causes."
