Cape public library to hold annual book sale

Book lovers can buy used books at bargain prices at the Cape Girardeau Public Library this weekend.

The library holds book sales twice a year -- once in the spring and once in the fall.

The library has hundreds of books for sale. "We have 20 tables full of books and some books on the floor as well," said library director Betty Martin.

A small collection of videos and music CDs also can be bought, she said.

The library will sell both hardback and paperback books, everything from children's books to cookbooks.

The September book sale brings in a couple thousand dollars annually to the Friends of the Cape Girardeau Public Library Foundation. The foundation spends the money on reading club programs in summer and winter, and on items ranging from furniture to computers, Martin said.

The sale in the library's community room starts today and runs through Sunday.

Foundation members get the first chance to buy books, from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Interested book lovers can sign up at the door for a $15 minimum donation, and take advantage of the early sale time, Martin said.

The sale will be open to the general public from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The book prices are hard to beat. Hardback books, videos and music CDs will sell for $1. Paperbacks are priced at 50 cents each, Martin said.
