The Cape Girardeau Police Department is still searching for a suspect who refused to stop his vehicle for officers after they received a report of domestic violence in the 1500 block of Whitener Street around noon Sunday.
According to Sgt. Rick Schmidt, a caller identified the suspect as a white male who was abusing a white female. Police responded to the scene to find both the suspect and victim leaving the location and pursued the vehicle north on Park Street when the driver failed to yield to officers.
The driver then turned onto Normal Street where he began driving east in the westbound lane of the street through the university campus.
At that point, Schmidt said the chase was terminated for safety reasons because the vehicle was crossing intersections at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle, a 1999 silver Honda Civic with Missouri plate number ME8 57Y, was last seen by police headed east on Washington Avenue.
Schmidt said police have searched several locations in conjunction with the incident but have not located the suspect or the victim.
Anyone with information may contact the department at 335-6621.
