The wife of a man injured Thursday in a hit-and-run in Cape Girardeau was arrested an hour later for assault. At the time of her arrest, Cape Girardeau police say, she was driving the Ford Explorer that struck the 43-year-old man.
The incident occurred at 5:02 p.m. in the 1200 block of South Benton Street, according to police Sgt. Barry Hovis.
Police arrested the victim's 46-year-old wife around 6 p.m.
The husband, whose name was not released, was taken by ambulance to Saint Francis Medical Center. The severity of his injuries was not immediately known.
An officer on patrol spotted the Explorer and pulled the woman over at Kingshighway and Lexington Avenue, Hovis said. She was arrested without incident and remained in custody Thursday night pending charges.
Hovis had no further information about how the alleged attack occurred.
