Authorities are investigating a Saturday morning incident where witnesses say two armed men forced their way into a Cape Girardeau apartment.
Cape Girardeau Sgt. Jason Selzer said police responded at 9:27 a.m. Saturday after witnesses claimed two men kicked down an apartment door in the 200 block of North Lorimier Street and started waving guns. Two people inside the apartment crawled out a window to escape, and one ran across an adjacent garage. The other victim ran north and jumped through the plate glass door of a neighboring residence, which belongs to local real estate agent Thomas M. Meyer. Selzer said the victim asked Mary Meyer, who was home at the time, to call police. The victim was taken to a local hospital, treated for cuts and released.
One victim's girlfriend, who lives in the apartment, also called police, but the suspects drove away before officers made it to the scene.
Selzer said police later tracked down one man for questioning but did not find a weapon. He was released. Officers have not yet determined whether any weapons were involved because of conflicting witness accounts.
Police have not located the second man. Their names have not been released because charges have not been filed.
The dispute was allegedly over money.
