Southeast Missouri Hospital Medical-Surgical Clinical Nurse Specialist Linda Heitman has received the Barnes Hospital School of Nursing Outstanding Alumni of the Year Award.
The award, presented recently at a luncheon held at Barnes' Queeny Tower restaurant, was created in 1985 to recognize past graduates who excel in professional as well as personal endeavors. The award honors contributions in the areas of professional nursing through clinical practice, leadership, education, research and publication; and community involvement through volunteer work and leadership in humanitarian organizations.
Heitman, a 1972 honor graduate of the Barnes Hospital of Nursing, holds a BSN from Southeast Missouri State University and a Master of Science in Nursing degree with specialization in Medical Surgical Nursing from St. Louis University.
Heitman has been associated with Southeast for the past 19 years, and has worked in the intensive and coronary care units, in pre-anesthesia and as a cardiac rehabilitation nurse until her appointment in 1987 as a clinical nurse specialist.
Her duties at Southeast include serving as chairman of the hospital's organ transplant committee and transplant coordinator. She also serves as adjunct faculty for Southeast Missouri State University Department of Nursing.
