ST. LOUIS Deborah Sue Franzel, daughter of Mr. and Ms. Jerry Moran of Cape Girardeau, recently graduated from the School of Optometry at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

Dr. Franzel is the recipient of the Alcon Contact Lens Award, sponsored by Alcon Laboratories, Inc. The award is presented to graduates who have demonstrated clinical excellence in the field of contact lenses research while at the same time maintaing above average academic work.

In 1986, Dr. Franzel received her bachelor's degree in math from Southeast Missouri State University.

As a student, Dr. Franzel completed externships at the Optometric Center of St. Louis and Jefferson Barracks Veteran's Administration Medical Center.

While at the School of Optometry at UM-St. Louis, she was named to the Dean's List with Honors for her academic achievement.
