Cape man sentenced to 10 years for robbery

A Cape Girardeau man connected to two April robberies pleaded guilty to felony charges Monday and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. Circuit Court Judge William L. Syler ordered Ramont Williams, 39, to serve two 10-year sentences concurrently.

On April 10, Williams robbed a man walking home on North Street by striking him in the face and demanding he turn over his wallet.

On April 22, Williams attacked a woman who had just withdrawn $400 in cash from an ATM outside Security Bank and Trust. The victim was sitting in her vehicle when Williams opened the passenger door of her car and leaned in to ask her if she had change for a $50 bill. The victim said she didn't and Williams stole the $400 out of her hand.

"The streets are a bit safer since Judge Syler sent this man to prison," Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney Morley Swingle said in a news release.
