A 30-year-old Cape Girardeau man pleaded guilty in federal court this week to manufacturing methamphetamine, an assistant U.S. attorney said.

Leonard Espenan pleaded guilty to one felony count of attempting to manufacture meth, said Abbie Crites-Leoni, special assistant U.S. attorney.

Police reported that numerous items for a meth lab were found in Espenan's apartment during a consent search at his apartment on Nov. 2. He also admitted that he intended to manufacture 50 milligrams of methamphetamine, Crites-Leoni said.

Espenan will be sentenced June 4 before Judge Rodney W. Sippel.
