Douglas Wayne Metzger, 57, of Cape Girardeau pleaded guilty Monday to first-degree assault.
Metzger stabbed another man in the chest Sept. 26, 2015, in the 1200 block of Meadowbrook Lane in Cape Girardeau.
Metzger admitted to police officer Amanda Rhodes and to Judge Benjamin Lewis he was intoxicated when he stabbed the victim.
Metzger told Rhodes the victim put his hands on his “ol’ lady,” according to a probable-cause statement.
First-degree assault is a class B felony and carries a minimum sentence of five years in prison.
