A Cape Girardeau man was arrested Wednesday in Alexander County, Illinois, after leading Cape Girardeau police on a chase through downtown.
Cameron Rae Pope, 28, has been charged with felony resisting arrest. Pope’s bond is set at $6,000 cash only, with the condition he cannot leave the state of Missouri.
Patrolman Shane Bourbon clocked Pope’s 1999 Grand Marquis traveling 75 mph on South West End Boulevard, where the posted speed limit is 45 mph, according to a probable-cause statement. Bourbon hit the lights and sirens and followed Pope east on Southern Expressway, north onto Giboney Street, west on William Street, the wrong way on the roundabout at Morgan Oak and Fountain streets and south on Fountain Street. Bourbon suspended the chase when Pope crossed into Illinois on the Bill Emerson Memorial Bridge, driving east into oncoming traffic. Bourbon later found out Pope had been taken into custody by the Alexander County Sheriff’s Department.
