A Cape Girardeau man suspected of drunken driving led law enforcement from Illinois into Missouri in a chase that exceeded 100 mph early Saturday, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Jeffery Pirtle, 35, was being held at the Cape Girardeau County Jail in Jackson after the patrol said he ignored an attempted traffic stop at about 3:30 a.m.in Alexander County, Ill. The pursuit ended a short time later with Pirtle's arrest in Cape Girardeau County.

Pirtle has been charged with felony resisting arrest by fleeing, driving while intoxicated and speeding for driving his vehicle 55 mph above the speed limit.
