Cape Girardeau police arrested a man Monday morning suspected of firing shots during two incidents Nov. 13.

The Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Christopher Don’ta Hawkins, 18, of Cape Girardeau with conspiracy to commit robbery, first-degree attempted robbery and two counts of armed criminal action.

His bond was set at $100,000, cash or surety.

Witnesses, including two of Hawkins’ accomplices, identified him as shooting at Leslie Williams about 1:30 a.m. at 1606 Independence St. and about 10:30 p.m. at 2109 William St., according to probable-cause statements filed in the case by Cape Girardeau Police detective Jeff Bonham.

Williams was shot in the left hand when he exchanged gunfire with Hawkins at 2109 William St., Bonham wrote. One of Hawkins’ accomplices, Jermonte M. Lawrence, 20, of Cape Girardeau was shot in the upper right leg, according to the statement.

Hawkins, Lawrence and three other people were part of two schemes to rob Williams of marijuana, Bonham wrote.
