Fundraising efforts at Cape Girardeau, Jackson and Scott City schools raised more than $50,000 for United Way of Southeast Missouri this year.
Faculty and staff in those districts raised $33,556. Students also raised $18,769 for Youth United Way, which distributes the funds to community groups fighting risky youth behaviors.
Since schools started raising money for United Way in 1996, districts have donated more than $400,000. In 2009, the organization donated more than $37,000 to area school districts to help support families in need.
