Cape Girardeau will begin accepting leaves Monday at the city collection site and will begin collecting them at the curbs over a four-week period beginning Nov. 16, the city has announced.

The Public Works Department divides the city into four zones for curbside leaf collections. The first area that will receive the service this year is the portion of the city south of Broadway and east of Kingshighway.

The department asks that residents who want their leaves picked up by the city rake them to the curb in front of their homes in the week before their scheduled removal. The leaves are picked up by a vacuum truck, and the department cautions residents against raking the leaves into the street.

Other areas of the city, and the dates set for collection, are:

* North of Broadway and east of Cape Rock Drive, pickup begins Nov. 23.

* All areas west of Kingshighway, pickup begins Nov. 30.
