CAPE GIRARDEAU STUDENT GETS CONGRESSIONAL AWARD

Jennifer Gwin of Cape Girardeau is the 1992-93 Emerson Congressional Scholarship recipient.

Gwin is a second semester sophomore at Southeast Missouri State University, pursing a nursing degree.

U.S. Rep. Bill Emerson, who presented the scholarship, said: "A quality education gives Americans a competitive edge in succeeding in society. This scholarship will directly help Jennifer in realizing the necessary skills and tools to pursue her goal of a career in the health-care field."

Emerson endowed the scholarship fund for qualifying college students in the 8th District by donating money from a 1987-88 congressional pay raise he voted against and periodic speaking engagement honoraria.
