CAPE GIRARDEAU STUDENT EARNS NAVY SCHOLARSHIP

Luke Balsamo, a senior at the University of Rochester in Rochester, N.Y., has been awarded a Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps scholarship for study.

The highly competitive program will train Balsamo to serve as an officer in the Navy.

While the student is an undergraduate, the program covers the cost of tuition, fees, textbooks and uniforms and pays a small monthly allowance. Scholarship recipients agree to serve eight years or more, four of which must be on active duty.

Balsamo is a graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School.
