Carrie Beth Smith of Cape Girardeau was recently accepted into the Oxbridge honors program at William Jewell College in Liberty.

Oxbridge is an honors program that selects only 10 to 30 outstanding students a year. The small group of students admitted prepare for senior comprehensive examinations in the major field by students in individual or small-group tutorials and by independent reading and research.

Smith plans to major in molecular biology. This field of study normally includes study at Cambridge in England during the junior year.

A senior at Cape Central High School, Smith is active in Student Council, and attended National Student Council in St. Louis last summer. She is also a member of the speech and debate team and National Forensics League.

She is a member of National Honor Society, received the "I Dare You" Leadership Award, Girl Scout Gold Award, and is listed in "Who's Who Among American High School Students."

She is the daughter of Steve and Suzi Smith of Cape Girardeau.
