The Cape Girardeau Board of Education will begin planning for the next school year during a meeting this weekend.
School board members and outgoing and new administrators will attend the retreat Saturday, which will be held from 7:30 a.m. until noon at the Drury Lodge River Room. The meeting is open to the public.
Board members will review goals and measures related to the district's theme for the 1999-2000 school year. The theme, "Renew the Vision -- Maintain the Mission," will help guide officials as they review and update the district's master plan, as necessary.
Board members will learn how to be effective in their positions during the meeting. Expectations for incoming superintendent Dr. Dan Steska also will be discussed.
This will be the second retreat the school board has held this year. During a planning session held in March, members discussed long-term budget projections and class scheduling.
