Cape Girardeau police are investigating a chain of events leading up to a robbery that was reported during the early morning hours Sunday.

According to police spokesman Cpl. Adam Glueck, the victim had given his truck to another man for the purpose of doing some work on it. Last week, police called to tell him his truck had been involved in an accident where the driver had fled the scene, Glueck said.

When the owner of the truck went to confront the individual to whom he'd given the truck, the man pulled out a handgun and forced him to empty his wallet, Glueck said. That incident occurred around midnight Sunday.

Finding only debit cards, the suspected assailant led the victim to a nearby ATM, where he forced him at gunpoint to withdraw an amount of cash under $500, Glueck said.

No one is in custody in connection with the crime, Glueck said.
