Early Sunday morning, a man reported being the victim of an armed assault near Washington Park in Cape Girardeau.
Sgt. Jason Selzer of the Cape Girardeau Police Department said the man was walking by the park between 1:30 and 2:30 a.m. when an armed assailant stopped him and demanded his belongings.
When the pedestrian did not hand over his possessions, the alleged robber shot him in the foot and ran away, according to the victim's report.
Selzer said that so far, there are no suspects in the case. He also said this isn't the first time the victim has filed a report about a nonserious incident involving shots fired.
