U.S. Navy Commander M.G. "Gus" Lorberg III, a Cape Girardeau native, recently received a military award on his departure from a two-year tour in Pensacola, Fla., and his retirement from the Navy.
As the Navy representative to numerous Interservice Training Review Organization meetings, he was cited for his superior management skills in achieving maximum efficiencies in training expenditures through consolidation of Navy training into interservice training. This has been outlined as a top priority by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
A graduate of Cape Central High School in 1969, he received his bachelors degree from Southeast Missouri State University in 1973. After designation as a naval aviator and a tour flying aircraft in the Pacific from Barbers Point, Hawaii, he earned a masters degree from the Naval postgraduate school in 1980.
