A Cape Girardeau man was injured seriously in a single-vehicle accident Monday morning in Butler County, Missouri, and was air-lifted to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Phillip E. Thomas, 46, drove his 1993 Mazda Miata off the side of northbound U.S. 67, striking a guardrail and rolling over the car.
Thomas was thrown from his seat because he was not wearing a seat belt, a Missouri State Highway Patrol representative said. The highway patrol could not say why Thomas veered off the road.
Thomas also was listed as not having insurance. The damage to the vehicle was total.
