NEW MADRID, Mo. -- A Cape Girardeau man is in custody for the alleged shooting of a 16-year-old Sikeston girl, the Sikeston Standard Democrat reported. Willie Harvey, 18, was being held Monday morning in the New Madrid County Jail on a charge of first-degree assault.
According to New Madrid County Sheriff Terry Stevens, Harvey, who was being held without bond, was to be arraigned today in Division II of New Madrid County Circuit Court. Stevens said his department was notified of a shooting at 12:24 a.m. Sunday in front of The Next Level night club on Russell Street in New Madrid. At the scene police found a girl who had received a gunshot wound to the back of the head. She was taken to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Mo. Stevens said she is in stable condition.
Stevens said no gun has been recovered at this time.
