Jason J. Robert, a Cape Girardeau man accused of using pliers to attempt to cut off his fiancee's finger, was granted a change of venue Monday before Circuit Court Judge Benjamin F. Lewis.

Robert's case will now be heard in New Madrid County.

In addition to trying to cut off her ring finger, Robert, charged with second- and third-degree assault, made threats to kill his girlfriend, according to a probable-cause affidavit. The assault took place Jan. 21 and 22 at the couple's place of residence at 1927 N. Kingshighway.

Lewis also denied a request to eliminate two of Robert's bond conditions, including not being able to ride in the front seat a vehicle and an 8 p.m. curfew.

Lewis instructed Robert's attorney, Gordon Glaus, to address the matter before a judge in New Madrid County.
