Investigators have ruled a fire that a Cape Girardeau home on Wednesday was accidental.

Battalion Chief Brad Dillow of the Cape Girardeau Fire Department said that a two-hour investigation on Wednesday determined that the fire at 1000 S. Ellis St. began in an outlet in a bedroom.

Firefighters arrived on the scene around 4 p.m. after the homeowner reported a fire in her bedroom. Sheila Anthony and her family members left the structure safely without injuries.

The home received extensive smoke and fire damage.
