Cape Girardeau hit triple digits Tuesday, but fell short of a long-standing high temperature record for the date. The temperature at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport hit 100 degrees at 3:24 p.m., according to National Weather Service readings. However, the record high temperature for July 24 still stands at 102 degrees, set in 1965. Tuesday was the ninth day of July that has seen high temperatures at or over 100 degrees in Cape Girardeau. An excessive heat warning remains in effect until 7 p.m. Thursday. High temperatures today are expected to top 100 degrees around Cape Girardeau.
