Six companies submitted proposals to the Cape Girardeau County Commission on Thursday for benefit consultation and brokering. The benefit consultant or broker will assist in review, placement and support of the county's group health, dental, vision and long-term disability insurance. They will also support the county in the selection of programs and carriers, implement the approved recommendations and provide ongoing support for these benefits.

Cape Girardeau County Clerk Kara Clark Summers said having a consultant or broker should make the county's insurance bidding process more streamlined.

"They will have knowledge and bring better insight into the county employees' needs," she said.

Presiding Commissioner Gerald Jones and Commissioner Paul

Koeper approved a motion referring the proposals to Clark Summers and the insurance committee for further review. Commissioner Jay Purcell was not present at Thursday's

meeting.
