Cape Girardeau County murder suspect arraignment set for April 24

UNION, Mo. -- An April 24 arraignment has been set for Ryan Harkey, the Jackson man accused of murder in a December stabbing outside of a Cape Girardeau bar. The case is being heard in Franklin County on a change of venue that was granted on March 19.

Harkey pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder and armed criminal action charges in February in the stabbing death of Jerry "Buddy" Conrad after what police describe as an early morning altercation. Harkey's lawyer, Art Margulis, has said that the evidence against his client indicates Harkey acted in self-defense.

According to the Franklin County circuit clerk's office, the case has been assigned to Judge Gael Wood and the April 24 arraignment is set to begin at 9 a.m.
