A Cape Girardeau County man was charged Saturday with property damage following a complaint from a homeowner in the Hillcrest subdivision on Route K outside Cape Girardeau.

Darrel Nice, 49, who lives in the subdivision, was arrested following an investigation into allegations he painted the house with racial slurs, according to a news release issued Saturday by the Cape Girardeau County Sheriff's Department. The homeowner also said their car had been scratched with sandpaper and a substance had been poured into the gas tank.

The sheriff's department had received a call Friday night about a loud party at a neighboring house. Officers asked partygoers to turn down the music, and they complied.

Nice remains in the Cape Girardeau County Justice Center on a $15,000 cash bond.
