Cape Girardeau County commissioner Paul Koeper said county road crews "are getting around as best as they can and there are lot of people, private individuals, trying to help out," in clearing roads.
"They will take their farm tractors and help clean off the road near them. We have several hundred miles of road to clear and we’re doing everything we can. This ice is tough. I haven't heard of any major problems on our part [with downed power lines]," he said.
No Cape Girardeau County roads have been closed, he said.
Cape Girardeau County residents in need of daily medication, medical equipment or otherwise in distress and in need of assistance and who are without family or neighbors to help can find assistance from the Sheriff's Office.
Call (573) 243-3551 or 911 and dispatchers will send a deputy along with local fire and rescue workers to help. Be ready to state what kind of assistance is needed and the urgency of the request.
