Cape Girardeau contracts out storm cleanup

The City of Cape Girardeau announced this afternoon that it has contracted out services for the pickup of limbs knocked down by this month's large ice storm.

Pick up will now take place in zones.

The information below is lifted straight from the city's news release, sent our earlier today:

The City of Cape Girardeau Public Works Department has announced a new debris pick-up plan for the collection of the extremely damaged trees and tree limbs caused by the winter storms that recently moved through our area. The City has entered into a contract with Mariott Logging from Brookfield, Missouri for collection of the debris. After a review of the massive amount of debris that was generated by these storms, it was determined that Mariott Logging, with their specialized equipment has the ability to cover areas and pick-up at much quicker pace with completion being much sooner than originally anticipated. The City has been divided into nine (9) zones identified by letters A through I. The contractor began work today in zone A and will work the zones in alphabetical order; it is anticipated that they will complete one pass through the entire city in about 10 days. Residents may refer to the map provided to identify their particular zone. The contractor will collect all debris that has been placed at the curb for collection by City of Cape Girardeau Residents. Residents also continue to have an additional option for storm damaged limb and tree disposal. The City of Cape Girardeau Compost Holding Area, located at 453 Cooper Street is open and City residents make take their debris to this location Monday through Saturday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily free of charge until further notice. This option is open to City of Cape Girardeau residents only. The Transfer Station is open from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday until further notice for commercial businesses, Non-City of Cape Girardeau residents and contractors/individuals hired to remove limbs.
