• Recognition of Wayne Moore, sewer maintenance supervisor, for induction in the Missouri Water Environment Associations' Golden Manhole Society

Public hearings

• Held a public hearing to consider the request of William W. and Diana R. Beggs for a special-use permit to construct signs at four locations at the southeast corner of Highway 74 and Silver Springs Road and the northeast corner of Mount Auburn and Silver Springs roads, within an R-1 single-family residential district.
• Held a public hearing to consider the request of Michael V. Sedlock for a special-use permit to construct and operate a business consisting of welding, repair work and light structural fabrication and an auto repair shop in a residential district. The property is at 604 S. Ellis St.
• Held a public hearing to consider the request of the Community Counseling Center Inc. to rezone a 3.88 acre lot at 402 S. Silver Springs Road, at the southeast corner of South Silver Springs and Bloomfield roads, from R-1, single-family residential district to R-4, multi-family residential district.

New ordinances

• Granted a special-use permit to William W. Beggs and Diana R. Beggs to construct and maintain signs at Highway 74 and Silver Springs Road, and Mount Auburn and Silver Springs roads.
• Granted a special-use permit to Michael V. Sedlock to construct and maintain a building for operating a welding, repair, light structural fabrication and auto repair business at 604 S. Ellis St.
• Voted against amending Chapter 30 of the Code of Ordinances by changing the zoning of a portion of an existing lot at 402 S. Silver Springs Road from R-1 to R-4.
• Approved the record plat of Brookshire Estates Sixth Subdivision.
• Approved the record plat of Kinder Place.
• Approved the record plat of Marie Howell Subdivision.

Resolutions

• Authorized the city manager to execute a license and indemnity agreement with the Missouri National Guard to maintain an existing parking lot at the northeast corner of Independence Street and East Rodney Drive.
• Authorized the city manager to execute a blueprint for safer roadways program agreement with the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission for the purchase of radar units for the Cape Girardeau Police Department.
• Authorized applications to the Missouri Department of Social Services under the Emergency Shelter Grant Program, for Safe House for Women Inc. and the Salvation Army, and authorizing the city manager to execute all necessary grant documents.
• Authorized the city manager to execute an airport aid agreement with the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission for airfield signage at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport.
• Authorized the city manager to execute a contract agreement with Cotner Electric for airfield signage at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport.
• Authorized the city manager to execute a license and indemnity agreement with Environmental Works Inc. for placement of monitoring wells on a portion of Fountain Street.

Appointments

• Appointed J. Fred Waltz, Rick Hetzel and Walter Wildman to the Airport Advisory Board.

Liquor Licenses

• Granted approval of a temporary 5 percent beer by the drink license for Michael Hurst, d/b/a Optimist Club of Cape Girardeau, for an event to be held May 5 at the Missouri Dry Dock Parking Lot.
• Granted approval of a temporary 5 percent beer by the drink license for David Roth, d/b/a Humane Society of Southeast Missouri, for an event to be held April 28 at the Osage Community Centre.
• Granted approval of a temporary 5 percent beer by the drink license for Robyn Turner, d/b/a Cape Girardeau Pilots Club, for an event to be held July 6 and 7 at the Cape Girardeau Regional Airport.
