Cape Girardeau church holding marriage seminar today and Saturday

A conference this weekend at Cape LaCroix Church is aimed at strengthening marriages.

Gary Smalley, a nationally known counselor, speaker and author, will present the Love and Laughter Marriage Getaway along with pastor Ted Cunningham.

"The Cape area is a rich area for family and we felt like strengthening marriages is our first responsibility," said Marc Harris of Men at the Cross, which helped organize the event.

Harris along with fellow Men at the Cross organizers Jimmy Storck and Jimmy Wilferth had seen Smalley speak at other conferences and wanted to bring him to the Cape Girardeau area.

"This is for anyone at any level, whether their marriage is in its 80th year, or its eighth week, or you're just a couple thinking about getting married," Harris said.

More than 700 people have already purchased tickets to attend the conference, which begins at 7 p.m. today and resumes at 9 a.m. Saturday.
