Carol Keeler-Daniel of Cape Girardeau has been named one of the Missouri Jaycees' 10 Outstanding Young Missourians for 1995.
Keeler-Daniel is a reporter and talk show host for KZIM radio station.
The 10 Outstanding Young Missourians, sponsored by Missouri Public Service, recognizes the achievements of individuals between the ages of 21 and 39.
She was nominated for the award by the Cape Girardeau Jaycees. She was to receive the award Saturday during the Missouri Jaycees' annual meeting at the Lodge of the Four Seasons at the Lake of the Ozarks.
She was picked by out-of-state judges from a field of 29 nominees.
Keeler-Daniel created a program at the Cape Girardeau Civic Center titled "In the Name of Love." The program is designed to boost the self-esteem of teen-age girls.
She also helped start the first River Heritage Regional Black Family Reunion in 1994; was public relations coordinator for the local United Way's 1993 campaign, which raised more than $520,000, and chaired the Salvation Army Tree of Lights campaign for two years. Keeler-Daniel also was the host of a telethon that raised about $15,000 to buy a wrought-iron fence for the historic Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Keeler-Daniel is a member of several boards: Civic Center, Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce and Coalition for Minority Affairs.
