A fire that broke out Tuesday night in the Village on the Green Apartments at 1324 N. Sprigg St. caused building damage but no injuries.
According to Bob Kembel, Cape Girardeau battalion chief, the fire started because a barbecue grill on the second floor of one of the three-story apartment complexes was left buring when nobody was home at the residence.
One of the front posts caught fire and then the fire quickly travled to the roof and seriously damaged the apartment directly above where the fire started.
