The Family Resource Center closed its doors today following the identification of potential fire hazards by a state fire marshal on Tuesday.
The center's after-school program, which serves about 15 children daily, has been suspended as staff and board members seek legal counsel, said Denise Lincoln, the center's director. Board members met Thursday evening.
"We're trying to look for a temporary site we can take some programs to ... the board's initial reaction was to suspend all presence of humans within the roof," she said.
Lincoln spent Friday morning trying to contact parents.
The center is located at 1202 S. Sprigg St., in a 67-year-old building that was formerly a church. The fire marshal found several areas of concern, including a leaky basement and missing sprinkler heads. The inspection was result of Lincoln discovering the center might need a day care license to operate, something the center is appealing.
