JACKSON -- Nine of the 13 municipal races in Cape Girardeau County posed no contests for the candidates in Tuesday's elections.

Ten candidates running for the offices of mayor, alderman and trustee in Delta, Jackson, Oak Ridge and Whitewater were unopposed during the elections. There were contested races in Gordonville, Millersville and Allenville.

In the contested races, Gordonville was the hot spot. Three people offered themselves as write-in candidates on that town's ballot for Board of Trustees, bringing the total number of candidates to six.

The registered candidates prevailed in the elections to fill three three-year terms. Richard Badger, Gary Matlock, and Brad Duegess received 65, 52 and 52 votes, respectively. Write-in candidates Ronald Randall, Tim Goodman, and Mike Freeman received 39, 35 and 18 votes, respectively, in a losing effort.

In Millersville, Richard Campbell won 52 percent of the votes to win a six-year term on the rural fire district board of directors. Campbell received 85 votes in his win over Charles Hamners Jr., who received 53 votes.

Allenville voters chose three out of a field of five candidates to fill three two-year positions on the Board of Alderman. Fran Wolfe, Mary Amos and Wanda Wolfe shared 73 percent of the returns, winning 34, 29 and 25 votes, respectively. Lonnie Lesch received 18 votes and James Givens received 16 votes in the election.

Allenville voters also elected Geneva Beahringer to a one-year unexpired term. Beahringer won the race by only one vote over W.D. Welker, with a vote of 21 to 20.

Delta voters elected both of the candidates running for two two-year terms on the Board of Aldermen. Wayne Kinder received two votes to win Ward 1 and Ernest Brown had 17 votes in Ward 2.

In Jackson, Paul W. Sander ran unopposed and was reelected mayor of the city. Four candidates ran unopposed for two-year terms on the Board of Aldermen, including David Hitt representing Ward 1; Kerry Hoffman representing Ward 2; Valeria Tuschnoff representing Ward 3; and Jack Piepenbrok representing Ward 4.

Oak Ridge voters had only one choice to fill two three-year terms on the Board of Trustees. Michael King received eight votes in his bid for the position.

Jerome Foster and Sharon Hale were elected to fill two two-year terms on the Board of Trustees in Whitewater. Foster received 23 votes and Hale received 29 votes in the election.
