County commissioners approved another emergency spending request from the Cape Girardeau County Jail during Monday's meeting. Sheriff John Jordan called in to tell commissioners a new cooking unit was needed for the jail's kitchen after a large steam kettle that costs thousands to replace was determined to no longer be usable. Jordan said the kettle had been worked on in the past, but this time could not be repaired. Commissioners approved an amount not to exceed an initial bid obtained by the jail in order to replace the kettle with a new cooking unit. Last week, commissioners approved an emergency request for an amount not to exceed $8,500 to replace a chiller on a compressor in the jail's air conditioning system. Jordan told commissioners the after chiller was installed on the air conditioning unit's compressor, the motor broke down after a few minutes of use, so repairs were still being made.

Other action
