The Cape Girardeau County Commission on Monday approved a bid for a multiplate arch culvert that will replace one of the Little River Drainage District bridges on County Road 245. The bridge was closed earlier this summer when it was discovered to have extensive structural damage, said Scott Bechtold, county highway administrator. The new culvert is expected to last 40 to 50 years, he said, and work is slated begin in August or September. The bid was awarded to sole bidder Contech Engineered Solutions LLC of Sikeston, Mo., for $7,900.
The commission also reviewed bids from four companies for equipment for the parks department. Tom Gray Auto Sales of Louisville, Ky., Cape Auto Sales of Cape Girardeau, Commodore Motors Inc. of Madison, Tenn., and St. Louis Auto Brokers of O'Fallon, Mo., supplied bids ranging from $11,000 to $13,000 for a used one-ton flatbed truck. Bids were referred to the parks department for review and recommendation.
Associate Commissioner Paul Koeper was not present in commission proceedings.
