Cape Girardeaus assistant public works director, Stan Polivick, has been promoted to director of the department, city officials said Monday.
He will take over the position after the current director, Steve Cook, retires Sept. 1. Cook has worked for the city for more than four decades.
Polivick said he is excited by the promotion.
Its a good department, Polivick said, adding the city has a lot of good people in public works.
Polivick, who has worked for the city for 10 years, said he and Cook have worked well together. As a result, Polivick said he expects an extremely smooth transition when he takes over as director.
A licensed professional
engineer in Missouri, Louisiana and Mississippi, Polivick has extensive experience in public works, city officials said in a
news release.
A native of Sikeston, Missouri, Polivick has held several positions in the Cape Girardeau Public Works Department, including stormwater coordinator and assistant director.
He has been instrumental in the continued improvements to Capes Mississippi River flood wall, according to the news release.
He has worked closely with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and has coordinated the ongoing improvements to the wall, the release stated.
Polivick has directed planning and implementation of stormwater projects funded by the parks and recreation/stormwater tax passed in 2008 and renewed by voters this year, officials said.
Polivick and his wife, June, live in Sikeston.
Stans colleagues relish in his quick Cajun wit and southern anecdotes, city officials said in the release.
