While a proposed agreement on a public-private partnership for a Drury Southwest Inc. conference center and hotel is one of the largest issues at hand for the Cape Girardeau City Council on Monday, it also will have decisions to make on the annexation of several properties.

Two public hearings will be held to consider a proposed voluntary annexation of property on County Road 620 and Deer Creek Road, as well as property along County Road 618.

The council will vote on the annexations after the conclusion of the public hearings. These additions also require a council vote to extend the boundaries of Ward 4 to include the properties.

The property to be annexed on County Road 620 and Deer Creek Road is northwest of the Boutin Drive and Cape LaCroix Road intersection. With council approval, it will be zoned as a medium-density, multifamily residential district.

The property on County Road 618 is near the county road's intersection with Baldwin Drive and will be zoned as a single family suburban residential district.

Other business

  • A resolution to enter into an agreement with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources for a cleanup project at the city's leaf-holding area at 453 Cooper St. will be up for vote. The city's Public Works Department is looking to move all of its riverside services -- which include the wastewater treatment facility, transfer station and limb and brush dropoff area -- to the Corporate Circle area. A new treatment facility has been built, and construction has started on a new transfer station. Cleaning up its riverside properties, including the area on Cooper Street, is necessary before the city can sell the land.
  • The council will discuss and hear a report on medical assists from members of the Cape Girardeau Fire Department. The department responds to medical assist calls and has medical training, but transportation to a hospital, if necessary, is handled by the Cape County Private Ambulance Service.
  • The council will vote on a proposed partnership agreement with several hotel owners to support a new Drury Southwest Inc. conference center and hotel. The two buildings will be built at the location of the current Drury Lodge, 104 S. Vantage Drive, which will be demolished early next year.
