CAPAHAS DEPENDING ON DONATIONS

A fund drive to help support the Kohlfeld Capahas' trip to the National Baseball Congress World Series has started somewhat slowly, but Capahas' manager Jess Bolen expects things to pick up.

After the Southeast Missourian got the ball rolling on Monday by pledging $500, another $800 came in Tuesday.

The Capahas are trying to raise about $4,000 to cover travel and lodging expenses for the NBC World Series that begins Friday in Wichita, Kan.

Making contributions to the Capahas on Tuesday were Horizon Music along with individuals Mike Uhls and John "Doc" Yallaly.

"We really appreciate what the Missourian did to kick this thing off," said Bolen. "We've gotten some response, but it's been a little slow. I look for things to pick up in the next few days."

The way the double-elimination NBC World Series is set up, if the Capahas win at least one of their two games this weekend, they'll return to Wichita for further tournament action the following weekend. So the fund drive can continue for quite a few days.

"We'll need to raise more next week than now, so hopefully this will be just a start," Bolen said. "We appreciate what has already been contributed."
