A local LGBTQ group has organized a candlelight vigil at 8 p.m. today in Capaha Park for the victims of the mass shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida.

Amber Moyers, president of LGBT +: Ally and Advocate Alliance, said people should gather in the park at the corner of Broadway and West End Boulevard. She said 1,000 Facebook invitations have been submitted with people wanting to attend.

LGBTQ is an acronym for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer.

Retired pastor Michael Davis will lead the group in prayer. The names of all the deceased victims, at least 49 people as of Tuesday, will be read, and red balloons will be released.

Also, First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau opened its sanctuary Tuesday night to anyone wanting to pray for the victims, according to pastor Tyler Tankersley.
