FREDERICKTOWN -- Cap America, which started operations here in 1985 in an old grocery store building with 35 employees, has expanded its operations over the years.
"We're in a 100,000 square foot building and employ more than 225 people now," said Larry Pratt, secretary-treasurer of the firm.
More than 500 people recently attended an open house in celebration of the new location, and toured the facility.
"The company is locally owned," said Pratt. "It was founded seven years ago in an 15,000 square foot building. We started moving into our new location in June of this year."
Phillip Page is president of the firm.
Cap America purchased the vacant 100,000 square foot structure in May.
"Congressman Bill Emerson played a big role in our acquisition of the building," Pratt noted, explaining that the building was in inventory of the Small Business Administration (SBA) when Emerson got the two entities together and helped negotiate a satisfactory arrangement between the two."
Cap American manufactures a number of caps baseball, golf-style, tennis visors. "We also make knit scarves and face masks," said Pratt.
The firm ships its products nationwide.
