The Cane Creek Mothers' Club was organized Wednesday afternoon, May 28, 1913, with a membership of nine women: Mesdames. Carl Johnson, Linder Miller, Fred Leonneke, Charles Stout, Ransom Niswonger, Tim Broderick, Fritz Meyer, Greer Davis and August Overbeck.
The club's main goal was to raise funds to equip the school with a few necessities. Various sorts of entertainments were given during the summer, and the group raised $46 to purchased an organ, stage, stage curtains, basketball, swings, etc.
On March 4, 1914, at a call meeting Miss Bab Bell discussed canning, drafting of patterns, recipes, etc. She explained how the Mothers' Club could receive help, demonstrations, etc., but the name would be changed to Cane Creek Homemaker's Club. A vote was taken, and it carried to thus change the name.
Now this club numbers 22 members, of which 16 are represented and seven: Mesdames Carl Johnson, R. Niswonger, Fritz Meyer, Amon Nevins, Tim Broderick, Andy Howard and Miss Nora McLain were unable to be present.
This club meets one afternoon each month and is ever ready to welcome new members.
Members devote an hour to business, which includes on subjects interesting to farm women; also readings that show the true state of affairs on the average farm.
A lunch is always served by the hostess, which is a great feature of the meeting.
The members of this club are wide awake and jolly, and they make it a point to be present at every meeting and thus spend one pleasant afternoon of each month together.
The present officers are Mrs. Wade Clodfelter, president; Mrs. C.M. Johnson, vice president; Mrs. Joe Brennecke, secretary; Mrs. Greer Davis, reporter.
