Candidates for Missouri's 8th Congressional District and state House District 158 will appear at a forum Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Southeast Missouri State University University Center Ballroom.

US. Rep. Bill Emerson, a Republican, and his opponents, James L. Thompson, a Democrat, and Greg Tlapek, a Libertarian, were invited to take part in the forum, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Cape Girardeau County and SEMO's political science department.

District 158 candidates invited to the forum are Republican state Rep. Mary C. Kasten and Democrat Melinda McCulley.

Yvonne Ketcham will be moderator.

Besides the candidate forum, there will be brief explanations of the ballot issues.

The format will be for candidates for each office to appear in alphabetical order to give a two-minute statement and to answer audience questions.

The questions must be written and screened by the League of Women Voters and the political science committee to avoid repetition.

Candidates will be given time to answer each question.

No campaign material may be worn or distributed at the forum.
