The Cape Girardeau unit of the American Cancer Society honored its outstanding volunteers at an annual Ambassador of Hope reception Thursday.
The awards were presented to the Ambassadors of Hope who gave $1,000 or more during the last fiscal year and to patrons who donated $500 or more.
The donations provide funding for cancer research, prevention and education services for patients, said Sarah Holt, Ambassador of Hope chairman.
Ambassador of Hope recipients include James and Pat Allen, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Berry, Boatmen's Bank, Mr. and Mrs. Noel Botsch, Boyd Gaming Corp., Broadway Prescription Shop, Capital Bank, Dr. and Mrs. Charles Cozean, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Finch, First National Bank, Health Services Corp. of America, Hecht's Store, Hirsch Foundation, KBSI-TV FOX 23, KFVS-TV, Dr. and Mrs. David Kaelin, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Kasten Jr., Dr. and Mrs. Yong Kie Kim, LDD Inc., Jerry Lipps Trucking, Mr. and Mrs. Danny Lynn, C.P. McGinty Jewelers, Mercantile Bank of Cape Girardeau, St. Francis Medical Center, South East Missouri Bank, Southeast Missouri Hospital, Southeast Missouri State University and Mr. and Mrs. Al Spradling.
Patron award recipients include Ameritech Mobile, Auto Tire and Parts/Cape Electrical Supply, John and Bekki Cook, Commerce Bank, Data Business Systems, Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Davis, Eugene Holloway, Jayson Jewelers, Dr. and Mrs. Michael Jessup, Dr. and Mrs. Rickey Lents, Drs. Louis and Bridget Ostrow and Procter & Gamble.
Marjorie Grindstaff, Jackson Memorial Chairman, received an award for her years of volunteer work. The length of service award was given for 35 years of service to the American Cancer Society.
The Cape Girardeau Unit was also commended for its overall outstanding performance. A Unit of the Year award was given to the chapter for its accomplishments in income development, education and patient services.
Tracy Blattner, Cindy Ford, Margaret Lents and Kim Thompson were also recognized for the fund raising efforts with the '95 Gala. It was the single most successful fund-raising event in the unit's history.
