The Cape Girardeau County unit of the American Cancer Society held its annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner to recognize the efforts of more than 100 of its volunteers.

Barbara Crowell received the first Breast Cancer Service Award. Crowell is Breast Cancer Control chairman for Cape Girardeau County. She has been instrumental in development of a new Breast Cancer Memorial Wall to honor all women who have fought breast cancer and won.

The wall will debut Oct. 4 in Cape Girardeau at West Park Mall. The wall will travel throughout Southeast Missouri.

Crowell also works with Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

Rachel Beam received the first Income Volunteer of the Year for her work in raising money for the American Cancer Society. She worked on the Cancer Gala and Relay for Life, two fund-raising events for the cancer society. She will serve a co-chairman for the 1998 Cancer Gala.
